Compassionate Inquiry

A Gentle Approach to Emotional Healing, Self-Awareness & Nervous System Understanding

What is the Compassionate Inquiry Approach?

Compassionate Inquiry is a gentle psychotherapy approach developed by Gabor Maté, whose work has transformed the way many people understand trauma, emotional well-being, addiction, stress, and the connection between the mind and body.

This approach explores the deeper emotional patterns, beliefs, coping mechanisms, and life experiences that may shape how we think, feel, and respond to the world.

Compassionate Inquiry is deeply rooted in the connection between the mind, body, and nervous system, recognising that many emotional and behavioural patterns are often adaptations held within the body rather than personal flaws.

At McWellness, Compassionate Inquiry-informed sessions take a very somatic and nervous system-based approach, helping individuals become more aware of how stress, emotions, and experiences may be felt physically, emotionally, and mentally within themselves.

Through compassion, curiosity, emotional safety, and deeper self-awareness, sessions aim to support nervous system regulation, healing, reconnection, and a greater understanding of yourself in a gentle and non-judgmental way.

The goal is not to “fix” you, but to help create greater understanding, safety, regulation, emotional resilience, and connection within yourself.
